CHELSEA – A new restaurant has opened in the busy US 280 corridor in Chelsea.

Las Mesas Mexican Cantina opened at 362 Chelsea Crossroads on Sunday, June 26.

Owner Tem Gancayco said the restaurant’s first days of operation had been “very good”.

“I love Chelsea,” said Gancayco, which owns eight restaurants, including Habaneros Mexican Grill’s Chelsea location, a mile down the road from Las Mesas, as well as another Las Mesas location in Calera and Frontera Grill. at Hoover.

Gancayco said he wanted to open a second restaurant in Chelsea due to its rapid growth.

He chose a site on US 280 next to APCO Employees Credit Union and near Publix for the new restaurant, which took about eight months to build.

“I’m proud of it,” Gancayco said, noting that Las Mesas is his first restaurant to have its own building.

He plans to open the patio and possibly have live music outside later this summer.

In addition to a menu featuring a variety of burritos, enchiladas, fajitas, quesadillas, seafood, and specialty foods, Las Mesas offers a wide selection of beverages, including its signature margaritas.

“Everything is fine,” Gancayco said.

Las Mesas Mexican Canteen in Chelsea is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
