How restaurants cope with the labor shortage
How are catering companies finding and keeping workers right now?
This week’s episode of Catering company The “A Deeper Dive” podcast features editor Peter Romeo, who joins editor Jonathan Maze to discuss the workforce shortage and how restaurants are tackling the problem.
Restaurants of all kinds have reported difficulty hiring employees, to the point that many locations close early or for entire days due to labor shortages. Entire locations have been slow to reopen after the pandemic, in part because of the workforce.
It’s not just inside restaurants. The labor shortage makes it difficult to supply restaurants due to the lack of drivers and some fear this could cause problems throughout the supply chain.
Romeo discusses these issues and the many efforts restaurants are making to recruit workers, including sign-up bonuses, higher wages, better benefits and other strategies, and what it will mean for consumers.
